We are a network of eight organizations with extensive experience in the Monarch region. Over the years, we have worked successfully with communities, ejidos, academic institutions, and other collectives such as the National Phenology Network and the Community Water Monitoring Network.
Our network brings together civil society organizations that joined forces in 2009 to collaborate on sustainable development projects and initiatives both in the Monarch region and along the monarch butterfly’s migratory route across Mexico.
The Monarch Network was born out of the need for participating organizations to join efforts to carry out projects that aim to showcase their activities and improve results.
This initiative stems from the Geography Department at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). It became more robust in 2013 thanks to its collaboration with Alternare A.C., the Monarch Network, and local communities.
The Community Water Monitoring Network supports local communities in water conservation and in gathering key data on water body conditions. Its activities focus on the Lerma-Toluca and Cutzamala watersheds.
